About Us

MDM Actuaries is a niche actuarial and investment consulting company, catering to the needs of institutional investors and retirement funds in South Africa. The company aims to fill a much needed skill set gap in the local retirement fund industry, with a unique combination of in-house actuarial and investment skills.

 

MDM Actuaries is 100% independent and is currently made up of a team  consisting of actuaries and investment professionals, among others. The combined team has an average of 18 years' experience across asset consulting, asset management and advisory. 

 

As a complete level 1 BBBEE company, MDM Actuaries prides itself on being impartial, independent and professional in the work and service that it provides.

Malizole Mdlekeza (FIA FASSA CERA) is a qualified South African actuary (a fellow of the Institute & Faculty of Actuaries in the UK, and a fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa), specialising in pensions and investments. Drawing from his vast experience, spanning over 14 years across multiple areas of South African financial services, he founded MDM Actuaries out of a passion for effecting meaningful change in the South African institutional investment & pension fund landscape. 

 

He also serves as the current chairman of the Actuarial Society of South Africa's Alternative Investments Forum. This is a committee consisting of more than 20 actuaries and actuarial professionals focusing on various issues around the suitability of alternative investments such as infrastructure, private equity and hedge funds for institutional investors such as pension funds. Thinking around diversification, the suitability of returns given risks & broader social or ESG factors is pioneered within the committee, and these factors are considered and addressed in the formulation of MDM Actuaries' investment strategies.

In 2017, he was chosen as one of the Mail and Guardian newspaper's Top 200 South Africans.

 

Further to being MDM Actuaries' managing director, Malizole Mdlekeza is a lecturer in actuarial science at the University of Cape Town, the university from which he graduated twice, and focuses on lecturing postgraduate actuarial studies around pensions and investments.
